Which New Subaru EVs Are Eligible for the New Canadian EV Rebate?
Canada’s new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) officially launches April 1, 2026, offering up to $5,000 in federal incentives for eligible battery-electric vehicles. For drivers in Ontario considering a Subaru EV, understanding which models qualify and how much you can save is essential. The good news: Subaru’s growing electric lineup includes models that can meet EVAP’s eligibility criteria, each offering unique strengths for Canadian drivers.
The EVAP program introduces a new approach to EV affordability. Instead of focusing on manufacturer suggested retail price, EVAP evaluates the final transaction value of your purchase or lease. If that total stays at or below $50,000 after adding options and packages, you qualify for the full incentive. Canadian-made EVs have no transaction value cap, making them eligible regardless of final price.
Understanding EVAP Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the federal incentive, your vehicle purchase or lease must meet several requirements. The transaction must be initiated on or after February 16, 2026, and the vehicle must be new (never previously registered). Demonstrator vehicles with under 10,000 kilometres also qualify.
The final transaction value includes the base trim price, optional features, packages, accessories included at delivery, and manufacturer or dealership fees. It excludes pre-delivery inspection charges, freight, extended warranties, insurance products, winter tires, Level 2 chargers, financing costs, down payments, trade-ins, and all government taxes or fees.
EVAP Incentive Amounts:
| Vehicle Type | 2026 | 2027 |
| Battery-Electric (BEV) | $5,000 | $4,000 |
| Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) | $2,500 | $2,000 |
| Vehicle Type | 2028-2029 | 2030 |
| Battery-Electric (BEV) | $3,000 | $2,000 |
| Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) | $1,500 | $1,000 |
Individuals can receive one EVAP incentive over the program’s five-year lifespan, while businesses and organizations qualify for up to 10 incentives total. The incentive is applied directly at the point of sale by your dealership, reducing your final cost immediately.
2026 Subaru EVs: Do They Qualify for EVAP?
Subaru’s growing electric lineup includes models that qualify for EVAP incentives. The official EVAP Vehicle List includes vehicles with a final transaction value of $50,000 or less, and several Subaru EV trims meet this requirement.
Subaru Uncharted (FWD, FWD LR, Sport, GT AWD)
The all-new 2026 Subaru Uncharted pairs dynamic handling with powerful performance across four trim levels. The front-wheel-drive Uncharted FWD delivers 165 horsepower and an all-electric range of up to 399 kilometres in ideal conditions, with a 57.7-kWh battery. The FWD LR (Long Range) increases capacity to 77 kWh and 221 horsepower, extending range to approximately 496 kilometres.
The Sport trim adds all-wheel drive with dual electric motors producing 338 combined horsepower, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds while maintaining a 438-kilometre range. The GT AWD trim offers additional premium features with the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration.
All Uncharted trims feature Level 3 DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Subaru’s NACS charging port. The FWD and FWD LR trims appear on the official EVAP Vehicle List and qualify for the full $5,000 incentive.
Subaru Solterra AWD
The 2026 Solterra AWD starts at $52,495, above the $50,000 final transaction value threshold, and does not appear on the current EVAP Vehicle List. The Solterra features dual electric motors producing 338 combined horsepower and standard Symmetrical Full-Time All-Wheel Drive. With 210 millimetres of ground clearance and X-MODE dual-function system, it delivers true all-terrain capability. The upgraded powertrain provides more than 25% increased range compared to previous Solterra models, with charging from 10-80% in approximately 30 minutes thanks to improved battery preconditioning and charging speeds up to 150 kW.
Subaru Trailseeker
The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker starts at $54,995, above the $50,000 final transaction value threshold, and is not currently listed on the EVAP Vehicle List. The Trailseeker emphasises utility and adventure with a larger footprint than the Solterra, measuring more than 150 millimetres longer and nearly 25 millimetres taller, with additional cargo space and standard raised roof rails. Dual electric motors produce approximately 375 net system horsepower, delivering up to 420 kilometres of expected range in ideal conditions from a 74.7-kWh battery. Towing capacity reaches 1,500 kilograms. The Trailseeker features standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 210 millimetres of ground clearance, dual-function X-MODE, and NACS charging capability.
How the Final Transaction Value Works
EVAP eligibility is based on the final transaction value of your purchase, not the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. The final transaction value includes the base trim price, optional features, packages, accessories included at delivery, and related dealership fees. Items like winter tires, extended warranties, Level 2 home chargers, pre-delivery inspection charges, and freight are excluded.
For example, an Uncharted FWD with a base price of $45,000, a premium paint option ($700), and an accessory package ($1,200) would have a final transaction value of $46,900 — well under the $50,000 threshold and eligible for the full $5,000 incentive.
Claiming Your EVAP Incentive
The application process requires dealership involvement — you cannot apply independently. When you purchase or lease an eligible Subaru EV, your dealership submits an Eligibility Assessment to Transport Canada on your behalf. You must sign a Consumer Consent Form authorising this submission.
Once approved, the eligibility confirmation remains valid for 90 days. The incentive is applied directly to your sale or lease agreement after taxes and fees are calculated, reducing your out-of-pocket cost immediately. The incentive amount you receive is determined by the date your dealership submits the Eligibility Assessment — not your purchase date or delivery date.
Program Timeline and Declining Incentives
EVAP officially runs from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031, operating on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted. Eligible transactions initiated on or after February 16, 2026, qualify for incentives even though the program portal opened March 31, 2026.
Incentive amounts decline annually: in 2026, battery-electric vehicles receive up to $5,000. This drops to $4,000 in 2027, $3,000 in 2028-2029, and $2,000 in 2030. Earlier purchases maximise your savings.
